My first question would be why did you replace it? If it was replaced because it was faulty, and all ok otherwise, I'd suggest: - one of the spade connectors on new switch got pushed over and contacted a neighbouring connector and is shorting out. - new switch is faulty IMO, smoke would mean a short.
