infra temp gun is much faster and easier. .though higher tech of course. it's really nice where there is a header pipe for each cylinder, like a waterboxer vanagon has. that check.......temp of the exhaust headers while running...........is a great fast basic check....... as valuable as checking compression even, but a lot faster and totally non-intrusive .
