hi......... on the contrary ............an IR temp gun has so many thousands of uses.......... and they start at about $ 39.95 ........... I didn't mean to dis his clever suggestion.......and it is clever.

but I do mean to emphasize that 'home techs' who wish to be adroit with their vanagons and vanagon issues would be very smart to own an IR temp gun. It's an incredible tool. .given that it can identify a weakly firing cylinder in seconds compared to even hours of messing around...... one good use like that can pay for buying one.

then there's cooling system issues............VERY handfy for that. How many times have we read about a high temp guage reading on a vanagon on this list....... and wondered if the van is actually running too hot........or it's a guage issue ? ......... lots, I'd say.

wheel bearings..........( not so much on this one though, but sometimes possibly ) alignment ..........( .tire tread temp ..) dragging brakes......... frozen calipers ....... and what temp an engine is really running at, cooling system wise. all easily checked out with an IR temp gun.......in seconds.

you're right Mguel......it is a very clever suggestion........didn't mean to imply that it isn't.
