I keep hearing off and on from others that Bosch Ignition Wires aren't holding up on the Wasserboxer. But my luck has been the opposite. On my 84 Westy, I have about 10 years (and about 90k) on a Bosch set and they're still like new with no problems. I use the later style (85-91) for the pin-style distributor cap. Still, I usually replace wires every 5 years because of my preventitive maintenance attitude, but after each inspection I just keep using these. Maybe I've been just plain lucky.

I have a Bosch set like the above I installed on my 84 GL 2 years ago (when I purchased it) with the same results. The previous wires were some trashy make-do.

I know that it's been reported that since Bosch moved their production of Ignition Wires south of the border several years ago that the quality has suffered, but haven't experienced this first hand with the Beetle and Type 4/Late Bus/Vanagon Air Cooled & Water Cooled sets I've used in the past 10 years. None of my current and previous VWs have been cream-puffs or prima-donna vehicles either, 'cause I drive 'em hard and hell, I even live full-time in my Westy (10 years this coming Sunday).

My personal experience has shown that the Bremi and Beru (Germany) wire sets are outstanding products in themselves and have been an excellent choice on other VWs (both air and water cooled) in the past 30 years I've used them. I've also heard from others about the excellent quality of the Magnacor, but don't have first-hand experience to formulate an opinion on these, so I may try them out on a Vanagon project I'm contributing to or even a set for my 72 411 Wagon (that is, if Alamo makes/distributes them). It's always nice to know of alternatives. -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com jim@airheadparts.com *********************************** On Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 5:39 PM, Jerry <jbvelo@bellsouth.net> wrote:
