sure sounds like the alternator stopped charging. 'vanagon rescue squad' .............I'm sure a goggle search would turn up something. Ought to be a link on roadhaus.com I'd think.

if it's the alternator not charging..... repair would be a good used alternator.....I have numerous ones. the best repair would be a quality rebuilt alternator. On the cheaper end of the scale you can sometimes replace just the brush package/voltage regulator mounted in the rear of the alternator with two small screws. at least look and and make sure the belt didn't jump off or break. you can even peak into the license plate door to check that. I've seen a thousand cases of the most obvious simple broken thing......but people never bothered to even look at the engine. And I mean so simple and obvious that no mechanical savvy is needed to tell it's not right. At least look !

OK, I'm having my first 'adventure' in a while...

'84 Westy 1.9 I5 Exit 119 Ft Lewis in Washington @ 76 station Battery/Oxy lights came on during freeway drive, began to lose headlights & other electrics, pulled into service station and it won't turn over.

It looks like I'll need to have the thing pulled to a local mechanic, any suggestions in this area?

I also seem to remember a Vanagon emergency list, but not enough details to know how to access the list. What is the web page of that list? Any info is much appreciated.

When those lights come on, is that likely to mean a new alternator or...? I don't have any experience or an electrical test kit, so I'd probably need the mechanic to tell me which part is bad anyway. But it would be nice to save money.

Anyway, thanks in advance for the help.
