Thanks for all the input. With Max's info and yours, I'm going to wait until Monday so that if... Well, you know. It's nice to have the stores open in case I do extend the project beyond my intentions, as often happens. I also need to run to Echo and back later today, which might not happen if I'm still fixing my mistakes. Maggie - precaution noted! :)

Look at the new pump closely.  The fuel outlet to the filter and beyond is probably made of plastic.  Be very careful when installing the hose on that end that you don't twist or bend that outlet fitting and snap it off...
