Not at all... my Sony has 2 power lines, one switched (for making a noise, lighting the face etc), and one permanent (for the presets). I just put in a switch on the switched line, as the vanagon doesn't have a switched power setting on the ignition key like a car. It means I don't have to have the key in the ignition to listen to the stereo, like when I'm working on something completely different in the garage :o)
