Maybe the newer generation of Xplod stuff you see at Mega LO Mart are crap, but my 10 year old Sony cassette player/ head unit/detachable face/10CD changer unit has performed flawlessly oh these many years. Haven't played the cassette in a while, but the AM and FM Tuners are fine in my book and it's easy to operate while driving. Of course, I wouldn't have a clue how the rinky dink chip amp in the head unit performs, since the old school Rockford Fosgate amp pretty much drives the whole sound system. I think the model of my Sony is something like XR-C6100. Found a new one on ebay for $35 a few years ago just for backup when this one dies,if it dies. The cassette face just reeks of"Why in the hell you want to steal me?"

There's got to be a away to wire that head unit of yours to avoid the battery drain. I thought there was a separate wire for some of that stuff.

YMMV,
