It seems to me that VWAG made a systematic choice to avoid lockwashers and head-locking devices of all kinds (are there some Nylok-type nuts somewhere?). In retrospect I think this was a flawed choice. I for sure found bunches of loose fastenings on Dutiful Passage in places where no man had gone before me. And I have an eerie deja-vu feeling about that fouling-the-seat-track experience, I think it must have happened to me at some point (my specific memories of much of that period are shot-to-h*ll, unfortunately).
