For house batteries the CCA spec is not really relevant unless you also start your engine with that battery. A quick search on battery specs and what they mean will bring enlightenment for future purchases. Conventional wet cell auto batteries have two types of plates depending on their intended use. Starting batteries have porous plates so that maximum surface area is available for the current generating reaction thereby allowing a large current to be available. On the other hand, deep cycle and 'marine starting batteries have less porous plates, not optimal for starting but much better for deep discharge cycles. "The truth is out there" -- Agent Mulder |
