Ohhhh, I just *love* an oil discussion. So, I'll fan the flames here:

I don't run synthetic in our 2.1. Too expensive for any perceived benefit.

I use good old Delo 400 15W-40. Why? Since I started using Delo 400, there is been *no* lifter noise. Plus, Delo 400 still has Zinc in it. Zinc isn't that important on newer vehicles, but I feel it's important on our "old" WBXs. Zinc is the last line of defense in the case of metal-on-metal. The cam and lifters come to mind.

I've been using Delo 400 in our VW diesels as well. So, one oil for all three of our Vanagons.

So, there ya go. Let the fight begin. ;)
