Subject: Engine Stutters, Tach Nosedives... The saga continues.

Hi Volks,

FWIW, the van ran flawlessly yesterday; never hiccupped once.

But this morning on my way to work in bitter cold and windy -15C, it started to act up just as soon as the engine warmed up. The stutter came back big time. It wouldn't choke out at idle, but as soon as the tach crested 2K the problem came back with a vengeance.

I was able to nurse it to the office, and before I set out on my next call I unloaded the rear hatch and took a quick look at the engine compartment with the engine running. As soon as I touched the wires powering the coil, the engine died.

I removed the coil wires and firmly reseated them, and then set out on a 15 mile highway trip, came back to the office for a gauge I needed, then went back to the site and came back again. It hasn't blipped even once since thew wires were tweaked.

So I now suspect the problem was actually created by a slightly corroded connection at the coil which prevented the coil from doing its job at high rpms.

I sill plan to execute a complete tune-up and replace the distributor with a new unit; the parts I remove will be bagged and stashed under the rear seat "just in case".

Happy trails,
