Actually, what you cal the star is the very famous Orion nebula... The most stunning thing to see in the winter sky.

Just look up tonight (over your head, almost a zenith) if you have a fairly non light polluted sky, very early, at 8 or 9pm, you will see a "kite shape" stars stack (Orion constellation), about 7-9, if you see the tail of the kite, the center one is Orion Nebula. Now if you have some fair 7 or 10X binocular, you will see it, it's very big! Of course you won't see color like in the image but you will see the "Bird shape".
