I used a Rabbit heater core in the rear heater of my '87 GL.  I had to cut a little of the plastic shroud to make it fit and there is no valve on the Rabbit core to turn off the heat in summer.  I just clamped one of the hoses shut.  Otherwise, it worked fine.

Question: do you know if the Rabbit core or other VW core works for the 

rear heater in a Vanagon
