hi Mike, I was careful to say 'the long block.'

if you are going to mention modifying plemum brackets......... then we can mention l other things..... like whether there is a short or a long ( for oil cooler ) threaded bolt where that the oil filter screws on.

if you're going to mention 2.1 plemums on a 1.9 waterboxer engine..........assuming using the 1.9 fuel system...... then there's a mod that needs to be done to the 2.1 plenum.. Where the air idle valve used to go ............where that little 'pipe' has a 90 degree turn to point striaght up for the 2.1 air idle valve ..........it's neccessary to cut that 'straight up' part off, so the early system hose from the auxiliary air valve can go straight onto the plenum like it does on a 1.9. all minor differences. Main point I wanted to make.........since putting 1.9 long blocks where 2.1 ones were came up ............the blocks are the same ............ the Long Blocks............and so far, the only difference on the *long block* that I can think of , that matters, is the extra oil pressure switch on the 2.1. heck, if you're going to start mentioining the things that bolt to the long block.........then there's lots - like say.......the cast aluminum rear engine mounting bracket - the 2.1 sytle has bolt holes for a much better muffler support system.

how convenient though............that whichever plenum and throttle body you use........you can still use either air box and air flow meter. If putting a 2.1 block into a 1.9 vanagon ...........the 2.1 air box and air flow meter do not easily fit since the 1.9 main coolant hoses are in the way. But how convenient it's all that interchangeble. Mix n' match. Scott www.turbovans.com
