Thanks all for the help, got the bulb out from the speedometer side and it looked good so I tried putting in the one for the clock side which was working and it also didn't work on the speedo side and the middle one doesn't work either even with the bulb that I know is good from the clock side. What would be the next step.

Also the temp and gas gauge come on and off. I can get them to stay on by pulling out the big plug that connects all the ribbon strip. Pulling it out a little or wiggling it a little makes them come on. But doesn't do anything for the lights.

Can someone tell how to remove an instrument panel bulb? The one for the speedometer on my 84 Vanagon is not working and I want to take it out to look at it. I have tried pulling and turning the small plastic housing around it but no luck. Thanks, deek
