Hi all. I apologize for such an elementary question. This is for an '81 Westy, 2WD, re: installing the front wheel bearing grease seal. The archives say the seal should be flush with the hub face when installed. Issue: if I press it in place, the only way it stays in is ~ 3/16" below the hub face. i.e. very near of up against the bearing. If installed flush, it pops out. Is the seal actually supposed to be seated just below the face of the hub? (not flush?) The way I read Haynes and Bentley, it tells me the groove (with little wire) faces bearing. Is this correct? http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/WheelBearinSeal.jpg
Parts are correct, and all new.
TIA for any help! Neil.
