If that's in fact the case, then that settles it. I'm just plain stuck with good ol passenger tires, 'cause I ain't givin' up on the increased handling of my 16" rims--no suh. You'll get no argument from me that the reinforced tires are superior to those lacking these attributes, but I'm just not yet convinced that the dire consequences made quite plain for the mega-tall sidewall 14" rims is still the case for lower profile tires on larger diameter rims. VW's very conservative specs were meant to cover a very very wide range of possible climate/terrain scenarios on a global scale. The fact is, I live in a temperate zone, don't travel far from home and rarely carry large loads of passengers or cargo any significant distance. This is a non-issue, for my circumstances.
