Take a gander at the manual transmission section of the Bentley. It's
just a big ol' stack of gears in there. Not much you can do by opening
it up, except open a can of worms. Certainly no way to "save good
money" doing so. If it doesn't work, you need to send it to a
competent professional rebuilder. If it's had a rebuild and/or it
still works, just change the gear oil regularly. They're meant to last
for years. You know those stickers you see on stuff that say "no user
serviceable parts inside"? The vanagon MT might as well have one of
those.
