Richard, Basically, to remove the chrome bumper, remove both end caps (pry off round bolt cover on side), loosen screw and remove. Then carefully pry off the rubber bump pad, and you will see two bolts holding on the bumper. I suggest that you wire in a relay for the fogs, which are linked to the parking lights, that way when you turn off your parking lights, the fogs go off as well. Here is a photo of my 84 Westy with fogs... I haven't ran it through a car wash since I put this on however, as the brushes will rip them right off the bumper, breaking the plastic housing. I like the spacing I came up with... and I went with Hella fogs, with the "OEM" in dash fog light switch. Jack R. http://www.flickr.com/photos/77623993@N00/2634100682/in/photostream/

I am planning on installing some fog lights on my 87 Westy. I picked up some fog light brackets that were made for the Vanagon on Ebay a few weeks back. Apparently, in order to install the brackets, I have to remove the front bumper. My Bentley shows instructions for removal of the later, fiberglass covered bumpers. Haynes shows how to remove bumpers without the rubber trim strip. Looks simple enough. However, I want to remove the rubber strip without damaging it. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks.
Ric
