I imported my NY registered Vanagon Westfalia without much trouble when I moved to Canada 8 years ago. In addition to national, there may be provincial requirements. In Alberta the bus had to go through an "out-of-province" inspection. Basically a hopped up safety inspection. Nowdays they require installing a 3rd brake light. in 2001 I didn't have to do that. Any vehicle older than 15 years is easy regardless of origin. Vehicles newer than 15 years must also satisfy Transport Canada regulations. Most US registered vehicles do this.
