Chris,

I'm slightly confused.

You stated that you were using " BF Goodrich 185r14, D ply, 1680 or so lbs at 60 psi" and had a separation problem.

I know of no BFG Goodrich 185r14 tire that is load range D and 1680 lbs load rated at 60 psi.

Please tell us the model?

But then you replied to Kim's reply and said the tires were " Bridgestone RD603"

I don't believe this tire has been in production for a while. If you bad experience was recent I'm wondering if perhaps the tires were dated and perhaps that was the reason for the failure.

Or you could do like I did. BF Goodrich 185r14, D ply, 1680 or so lbs at 60 psi always rotated and balanced on time and ALWAYS properly inflated. I had 3 tires fail within 6 month with separated belts. All 3 tires failed completely within about 30 miles once the belt started letting go. A less astute driver might have never felt the initial belt failure and had a stupid accident when the tire went completely.

I'm assuming this one is for me. They were Bridgestone RD603. I replaced them with the excellent Hankook RA08 in 195r14 size. The Hankook will go to nearly 1900lbs at a whopping 65psi.
