Thanks for the reply/info.

First off people, I'm a Nunce!   ;)

In filling the groove in the seal with some grease (and ensuring there
was enough grease in behind seal when installed):

the inside of hub and outside edge face of seal, were too damn greasy!
They were too slippery so the seal would pop out!

Cleaned up offending parts with a *bit* of brake parts cleaner on a
clean rag et voila:
