If you do clean the starter up be sure to clean up any excess brake fluid if it's used to clean the outside of the starter. I saw a tech at the Honda dealership clean the outside of a starter off with brake fluid and then start the car. The spark in the starter started a small fire that was quickly extinguished with no harm done. That scenario would disasterous in a vanagon near the main fuel line!

Now that my transmission is out, and the starter is easily accessible,? what maintenance might I do to it and associated parts to ensure it? continues to function trouble free well into the future. I would hate to? have to go back to this thing any time soon.? ? Is there any preemptive work I can do if I want to add something later -? like a lighting upgrade, or do something about those flimsy heater? switches. Should I do something special about electrical power regards? the starter - other than be sure the terminals are cleaned up really? well? I'm open to suggestions here.? ? Thanks,? ?
