Apparently (according to folks on the Samba) the diesel pilot bearing (p/n 056 105 313c) can be used as a substitute for the WBX pilot beating and felt seal. It's the same pilot bearing used on many other watercooled VW's and has an intergrated rubber seal instead of the felt seal. The diesel pilot bearing design therefore eliminates the need for the NLA retainer ring for the felt pilot bearing seal. I have one on order to check it out and compare for myself. I do not know why VW chose to stick with the felt seal setup for the WBX when they already had the diesel pilot bearing design. Pascal '84Westy
