While replacing the back-up switch on my '85 1.9 engine manual trans, I noticed something odd about the idle booster that is supposed to be connected to the power steering pump. Whenever I put the van in reverse, it boosts the idle. It seems that the booster/relay in the foreward right corner of the engine compartment is somehow connected to the back-up light switch. Whenever the van is in reverse, the relay is engaged. I know that it is supposed to be connected to the ps pump. Is is supposed to be connected to the back-up light switch, too, or is this mis-wired? I have not yet traced out all the wiring, but I do see that one wire from the relay is in a sheath that crosses to the opposite side of the engine compartment paralleling the coolant hoses, and the other wire goes toward the power steering pump. I'll trace these out more later, but I'd like to know if anyone knows exactly where the wires are supposed to be routed. I do have the Bentley and can pull out the wiring diagrams later, but I was hoping someone had an easier answer than studying the wiring diagrams. Thanks, Ed in CT |
