With Spring just around the corner. I can't help but promote the great state
of Michigan, where I do 90% of my Vanagon adventures!!!
Visit the new Michigan website
http://www.michigan.org/Topics/Pure-Michigan-Ads/Default.aspx Tim Allen
(Home Improvement) is a native Michigander and is the voice on the video
clips on this site.
Our state was hit hard by the recession, as so much of the industry around
Detroit is linked to automotive. One of the seconded largest industries in
Michigan is tourism.
And with more miles of coastline than any other state in the continental US,
and over 10,000 inland lakes, nearly 200 named waterfalls in the upper
peninsula, there is so much to see and do in your Westy.
Link to waterfalls.

favorite is Laughing Whitefish Falls
http://www.geocities.com/chathammi/laughing.html
There are also 71 light houses to check out!!!

Some are even at state camp grounds. like Tawas, and Leelanau near
Northport. we camped at both of these parks last summer.
And we can't forget the National Park in the Upper Peninsula
http://www.nps.gov/piro/ at Pictured Rocks National Shoreline. it is
breathtaking, and plenty of remote camp sites.
Be sure to mark your calendar for the Buses by the Beach Benefit on May
14-17, 2009. http://www.busesbythebeach.com/ a great time, with great
people, helping a great cause!!!
If you are entering from the south or east. be sure to plan a day or two
near Dearborn and visit The Henry Ford (be sure to check out a pristine
Westy on display in the museum!) http://www.hfmgv.org/ the nearest camping
location is about 20 miles west in Ypsilanti Michigan.
Amateur road racing, with on-site camping at
http://www.waterfordhills.com/cms/news.php see this link for the monthly
summer race schedule.
And just north of Detroit, right in my back-yard is Cranbrook
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cranbrook_Academy_of_Art offering Art,
Science, and so many interesting sights.
If you plan your visit to Cranbrook around August 15th, show off your
Vanagon at the Woodward Dream Cruise while you are at it...

So much to do this summer in our Great Lake State!!!
