If you look closely at the timeset install you will see that it is recessed a bit in the case. This reduces the amount of sealing surface that the copper crush washer has to seal against. Did you torque the oil plug to spec? If you do it should deform the copper crush washer enought to make a good seal. If that does not work, some people use a nylon/plastic oil plug sealing washer available from a FLAPS instead of the copper sealing washers with good success.
