Not sure if Bentley has an illustration, but they are just steel tubes about 4" long that fit inside the ends of the plastic tubes, to keep them from deforming when the clamp is applied. Both the plastic tube and steel inserts have matching lips on the ends to help keep the hose from sliding off. The steel inserts rust and the lips on the plastic pipes can break off. Why the inserts migrate out is, at least to me, another VW mystery. On my '90 Westy, I was able to re-seat one of the inserts on the forward end of one of the pipes. It took a lot of heat and pounding. After that, I installed the GoWesty kit. Photos are on their site. On my '88 Westy, the pipes and inserts were in place, so I drilled a small hole and inserted a stainless steel screw through both. This was mentioned here years ago. So far, mine is good to go and I have never seen any reports from others who might have taken this route. Anyone else done the SS screw bit?

Are they just sleeves that fit into the ends of the plastic tubes to reinforce them at the clamping points?
