In the recent discussions about fuel injection systems and diagnosis mention was made about using WD40 or some other silicone spray on fuel system components. It should be noted that silicone, whether in an aerosol or in gasket material, that gets ingested into the intake will damage, permanently the O2 sensor. Another source of contamination is if the sensor is sprayed directly with a silicone based spray, O2 sensor breathe in fresh air as part of their function, breathing in air with just a trace of silicone will kill them.
