That was my uncle's motto. Mine is "Buy good enough, even if it's the best." My family has historically had trouble distinguishing between them, and we both got painted with the same brush, somewhat to my disgust. My dad's motto, to caricature it completely unfairly, was "Never buy anything, and get the cheapest if possible." and so his brother and I were both castigated as wretched luxuriants.

One result of Dad's attitude was that when I was 18 he was able to buy a 32-foot sailboat, which I have sailed for most of the time since; so you see there was some nuance there. And no doubt I *was* a wretched luxuriant, to some extent anyway.
