One New Year's Eve in the Nantahala Gorge in North Carolina, I was with a group of winter river rats when a friend, Crazy Ed, the owner of a 1971 Westy named "Puddle Jumper," decided to pour a gallon of Coleman Fuel on to a pile of wood. Upon ignition, Crazy Ed swears, we could see the skeletons of those standing between us and the ensuing explosion. I was driving my vanagon, Base Camp, at the time (a 1981 sweety) (Vanagon content).
