Bill,

I've used high-powered tail lights and brake lights on my Vanagon for years and when I recently inspected the internals of my taillight housings I found that they were distorted from the heat. Some black plastic actually bubbled. Now, my current Westy is a part-time vehicle, so the amount of time I actually used the taillights is not that high.

I thought about using the type aluminized adhesive tape HVAC folks use to seal ducts inside the taillights to increase reflectivity. There's lots of heat-and-light absorbing black in there after all.
