Less worrisome just to paint it The issue that I remember being debated at length had not to do with leaks but with the resistance of the window/windshield to being popped out entirely. The don't-do-it school I thought had a convincing case, including a try-it-yourself demonstration, but the it's-fine-don't-bother-me school remained unconvinced. Of course the demonstration if successful would have resulted in your windshield jumping out onto the driveway, so perhaps it's understandable. Anyway all the crash-test videos are filled with flying windshields, so what the hey. Which reminds me, it's long past time we had a big tussle over whether the shear-head bolts on the steering column are intended for theft-resistance or in some mysterious magical way influence the crash-collapse characteristics of the column. <weg> D
