Ken, what the GoWesty kit does is to clamp a brass insert into the interior of the mating hose, so that when the hose is mated up to the pipe the GoWesty insert retains the original steel insert in the pipe. If the original insert is still in place with or without the plastic that extends beyond it, it is simply left there. If the plastic end (ring) has separated it is discarded, and if the steel insert has migrated it is replaced into the plastic pipe.

The GoWesty kit provides the functionality of the original overmolded end in retaining the steel insert within the pipe, but now contained within the mating hose rather than an integral part of the pipe.

Honest Injun, it's a clever and workable rig.

David
