It seems it is in Portland, Seattle, or areas of Cali. I think so many on the left coast as you say because of mindset and weather. Left coast is further from the more industrial east and the rust belt. Not to mention all the socially concsious hippie types that migrated that way in the 60's. Not that us Vanagon drivers are all hippies but I think we can all agree that VW bus owners of any kind seem to maintain some of that "socially consiousness".
