In Eastern Alabama around Randolph County there is mining gold down
deep To get to it would require strip mining as done in the West. That
destructive method of mining won't happen here in this state.There are
other riches here that offset the value of any gold. It's a bit Like
Albany, NY. The region was famous for it's clay that had very specific
characteristics for pottery. Everybody wanted Albany clay to make Albany
slip for finishing and color on pottery. It was very fine stuff and
shipped all over the country. Now however, you can't get it any more.
The mines are shut down. Why? the value of the real estate on the
surface is worth way more than the clay in the ground. So Albany slip
clay is no more. Gone, history! So it is with gold here.
