Subject: Removing printed circuit from instrument cluster
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

As many of you have noted, the instrument cluster housing has a tendency to crack, break, and fall apart where the screws for the speedometer and tachometer housing are attached. Reading through the archives, I found many great suggestions for how to rebuild the screw holes. However, before I really make a mess of things, I need some advice.

Unless I am not looking on the correct pages in the Bentley manual, I don't see how to remove the printed circuit ribbon before I try to fix the broken parts of the instrument cluster housing. How sensitive is the ribbon and how can I remove it from the cluster without damaging it? I need to totally rebuild the 4 screw bosses for the speedometer and would like to remove the speedometer, the blue ribbon, and the tachometer so I can also fix a few cracks around the screw bosses for the tachometer. However, I am scared to death I may hurt something that will really cost me a lot of money. My first thought was to remove the indicator light housing but after taking the screws out, it does not easily want to detach from the blue ribbon. So, I am stopping until I get some advice on how to proceed.

Any advice, tricks, etc. are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Harold ___ Harold Teer 1991 Westy (Vangaux) Harrisonburg, VA
