fwiw, both my '84 sunroof van and my '85 doka are sporting Terry K's 
stainless coolant splice kits..   easy to install, and havent had a problem since.. 
usually the front half of the steel coolant lines are still in decent 
shape..its just the back half that usually rusts away..
