Any alkali deposits or any such thing (on glass), use a razor scraper.
 DO NOT use a 3M green scratch pad.  Glass is harder than steel, but
not as hard as the scratchy element of scratch pads.  Oh, yeah.  Use
good clean blades with no rust on them.  Rust is harder than glass and
will scratch the windshield.
