Right now, I am just wanting to finish off the rust repairs, but am planning on having the body repainted in the not too distant future. Do you think I would need the clear coat for this "temporary" patch? I'm not expecting a perfect match, there is a lot of variation in paint sheen vs chalking already. Also, what paint chemistry (type of paint) do you think would best be used for this '82? I suppose the body shops I talk to will have their opinions, but I'm trying to get some unbiased opinions on that. I will probably not have all of the paint removed when I have it repainted, it will be blended in under the pop top, for instance. --- On Fri, 4/10/09, Adrian Bertarelli <abertarelli@gmail.com> wrote:

All of your auto body places get thier paint from somewhere. I get my supplies from sherwim williams. They have two stores the regular paint store (house) and auto paint. Call them and ask them if they sell auto pain. They can match up any body code color. Just painted my land rover. Remember you need to buy a ton of stuff when doing auto paint. You need paint, reducer, clear, hardener. Also, what paint and primer chemistry for an 82 Vanagon? Mail order OK but if there's a source around Central Texas I could pick up from that would be better. A search of local businesses reveals only body shops, no supplier of paints. All the body shops are too busy taking care of the 20,000 or so hail damaged cars to talk about this. I plan to use this in a preval sprayer to finish up from de-rusting here and there. > > > > |
