Don't get caught on a dirt road mountain pass at 10k and then try to drive down said dirt mountian road in the snow that fell over night in your 2wd vanagon. It happened to me and it took us 5hrs to go 3 miles back down to a safe area. The road was totally a mud slick slide and it was so bad I had all out of the van and I was driving with the door open so if the van started to go for it over the edge I could bail!. Most of the time I had to keep the van in revers with tire chains on just to keep it in place and not slide off the side of the road. I also had a rope tied to the front of the van so the other two with me could pull a-la tug-o-war to also keep it from sliding off of the cliff. Brady

I'd love to hear about anyone's cross-country westfalia experiences. I'm going from RI to WA to CA and back this summer. Any tips on what to do/not do on such a trip are welcome! Thanks, Ryan
