Right now, I am just wanting to finish off the rust repairs, but am planning on having the body repainted in the not too distant future.  Do you think I would need the clear coat for this "temporary" patch?  I'm not expecting a perfect match, there is a lot of variation in paint sheen vs chalking already.   Also, what paint chemistry (type of paint) do you think would best be used for this '82?  I suppose the body shops I talk to will have their opinions, but I'm trying to get some unbiased opinions on that.  I will probably not have all of the paint removed when I have it repainted, it will be blended in under the pop top, for instance.

All of your auto body places get thier paint from somewhere.  I get my supplies from sherwim williams.  They have two stores the regular paint store (house) and auto paint.  Call them and ask them if they sell auto pain.  They can match up any body code color.  Just painted my land rover.  Remember you need to buy a ton of stuff when doing auto paint.  You need paint, reducer, clear, hardener.
