Robert,

You can get your annual pass at any National Park or BLM Site that requires an admission fee. The park you purchase it at gets a portion of the fee, so I always purchase mine at Zion. That way some of my dollars actually help the National Park that surrounds my house. They take cash or credit card. It cost $80.00. It is good for all federal site standard fees. State parks are not included, nor is camping. I use the visor hanger from the BLM; but hang a photo copy of both sides of my annual pass. If someone breaks into your Van and steals the original you are out of luck. Our local BLM office (AZ Strip) does not recommend leaving your pass behind as easy pickings. A lot of trailhead parking is a target anyway for break in thiefs It is pretty bad in the Lake Mead National Recreation area. So, use common sense and keep valuables out of site.

On a side note, only the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is open at this time of year. The North Rim closes on October 15 (or first big snow) and reopens on May 15, weather allowing. See the south Rim, and then come back sometime for the North Rim. It is one of my favorite summertime places in the world. You can camp in the Kaibab National Forest, as in park sites take some planning. Brion S. Springdale Zion National Park, UT
