I can only tell you that after a friend of mine painted his 2 propane tanks, none of the local fill stations would touch them, claiming that it was illegal for them to refill customer painted tanks.

He ended up exchanging them because the clerks at the local convenience store "don't care".

One stated that it's OK for them (the propane companies) to test and repaint tanks because its part of their refurb process.

Really? I've been trying to find some definitive info on my Westy's propane system, specifically about laws that apply to it. There just doesn't seem to be much information out there, or maybe my Google Fu is weak today. Do you have any links to share?
