I would not bother to replace the older type with the cast version unless they had the bigger and better brakes attached or unless my old stuff was in bad shape and I found a clean late 85 setup to swap in it's entirety. I have done both type of upgrade and been pleased in all cases, as have the owners when they drove the later setups.
