Hi Robert, My '90 just has the waxy stuff that it came with, pretty much intact. Living in Southern California for years and now Arizona, rust has not been a problem. I do recall people saying stay away from products that dry hard, that might actually separate from the surface, creating spaces for moisture to seep in and start rusting, but you can't see it, until it is too late.
