My Vanagon got a bruise on the panel behind the rear wheel on the driver side. There is no dent but there is a scratch of about 3"x5". Does anyone ever DIY to repair or repaint something like this?

My questions are what kind of paint I should get and what are the specifics that I need to know. What I know is I need to sand the scratch to smooth out the scratch. Then spray primer over. Sand it with very fine sandpaper again. Then spray the paint. I will need to spray clear coat at the end. Am I right (or wrong) about these? I have an air compressor that can do a small paint job.

Thanks for any suggestions.

David
