Fer shure, some fortuitous combination of land features and masking sound
sources (stereos, the ocean, freeway, wind blowing in the trees and
blowing in a direction to carry the sound away, etc.) might render the
offending contraption inaudible -- such things are within the realm of
possibility -- but I can't recall even one occasion in my decades of
camping when I've come across a running generator and been surprised to
find it. It's more like, when will they ever shut that thing off? And when
they do, it's like a weight off my chest. I mean, dang, even at farmer's
markets, which are seldom silent events hereabouts, a 1000W generator
behind a booth is clearly audible.

Maybe I'm just sensitive or fussy. Cantankerous, even. Sure, I'll cop to
that.

I can but hope that those that camp near me are equally respectful of the
quiet. And if not, plan to move out in the morning.
