Good to know what the symptoms of a failed/failing valve can be David. I guess in that case, the ball was closing off the flow.

At this point I attribute the arse end of my Westy coming around (during test "panic" stop) to a failing FR caliper:

messed up outer seal, rust spots on exposed portion of piston, but pad wear looked almost even. (but I don't use the brakes much)
